Wedding Invitations: Dos & Donts

Wedding Invitations and save the dates are an essential part of the wedding planning process, and one we love supporting our couples through. The invitation suite is not just informational, but they set the overall tone and aesthetic of the day, months in advance! Below we share our dos and don'ts when it comes to creating, and sending save the dates and invitations to your guests!

DO send Save the Dates

Save the Dates are something we discuss with every one of our couples! We highly recommend that you send a save the date to your guests that you definitely want to be invited to your wedding. A good timeframe would be between 9-10 months in advance. An exception to this rule would be, if you are within four months of your wedding date when you begin planning, we suggest to skip the save the date and send the invitation as soon as you have your venue and menus ironed out.

DON’T forget about the design of the invitation suite

Before even thinking about creating your invitations, you need to know the overall aesthetic (feel, colors, vibe) of your wedding day. Your invitations are the first thing guests will see, and should give a sneak peak of what they should expect on your wedding day. Plus, they will create a gorgeous flatlay for your photographer to capture, and you want them to coordinate with your florals and other details.

Our specialty is helping our couples nail down the overall vision and find the perfect stationery artist that will bring the vision to life! We work with them to ensure all elements are cohesive, including fonts, monograms, and color scheme.

DO send the invitation on time

We recommend couples send the save the dates 9-10 months before their wedding date (be sure your venue is booked first!)

Invitations should be sent 8-10 weeks before the wedding date.

DON’T forget the importance of the RSVP date

We highly recommend our couples set the RSVP date 5-6 weeks before their date. This may seem like a long time, but most vendors require the final headcount 4 weeks before the wedding date. Those extra two weeks provide time for you to contact those who haven’t responded to the invitation and allow you to make changes if need be.

If you are overwhelmed by all the details of pulling your wedding day together, book a complimentary discovery call with us here to see how we can help you create the wedding you’ve been dreaming of.
