Reasons to do a First Look
Here comes the bride!
There is nothing like seeing your future-almost-husband or wife on your wedding day. It is truly indescribable. Some couples choose to keep with the tradition of waiting to see each other at the alter on the day of their wedding, while others choose to “sneak a peek” before the ceremony begins. Now there is no right or wrong way, but here are a few reasons to consider doing a first look!
1. Calming the Wedding Day Nerves: Seeing your partner for the first time on the day of your wedding is a special, one-time event that can hold a lot of pressure. A first look gives you a hidden moment with just you and your partner before all the hustle and bustle of the wedding begins. This is the time where the two of you can express your excitement and appreciate that the day has arrived. This will most likely be the only time that you and your partner will be able alone which creates reflective moments as a union. Couples have said they have felt a sense of relief after having these intimate moments together before the day can be shared with everyone.
2. Actually Remember and Enjoy the Ceremony: Lets be real… You have been dreaming of this day since you were 6 years old, walking around in pink sparkly heels, a paper towel veil, and a ring pop… no pressure! Now that you are all grown up, the thought of walking down the aisle in front of all the people you care about the most can be very intimidating for some brides. The ceremony is full of details; reciting vows, exchanging rings, remembering to walk slow and not trip over your dress. If you chose to have a first look, you will already feel calmer, be more comfortable with the photographer, and now that the initial nerves are out of the way you can relax and enjoy your ceremony.
3. Bridal Hair, Makeup and Flowers will be Full of Life: Fresh out of the salon chair, your hair and makeup will be fresh and bright and exactly how you envisioned it to be. This will translate in your pictures where everything is in place and picture perfect. Once you’ve gotten through your ceremony, you will have already experienced happy tears, perhaps a drink or two, hugging your guests and a few hours of warm sunshine (or wind, humidity, rain, etc.) which leads to bridal hair, makeup, and bouquet not looking quite the same.
4. Intimate Photography Opportunities: Grooms are complicated beings… Some grooms show genuine, emotional reactions up at the altar with no problem, while others get nervous having all eyes on them before you make your grand entrance… which may influence their reaction. A first look provides an unseen and intimate moment, without the pressure of everybody watching you and expecting certain reactions from you and your partner. This allows genuine emotions to come out, which make for honest and truly happy pictures. Doing a first look also allows you to get couple photos done prior to the ceremony, which will give you more time to enjoy your cocktail hour with your guests!
No matter what you chose, your day will be so special and exactly how it was meant to be!
