Top Invitation Questions

Stationery by Stone Hill Paperie

One wedding item that is key but often overlooked would be stationery and invitations. These products not only provide relevant information to your guests, but they also allow a sneak peek into what people should be expecting on your special day! Stationary products do create questions, especially when it comes to timing! When do we send save the dates? Invites? What should our deadlines be for RSVP’s? And many other questions… but don’t worry! We are here to answer them all!

What should be included with my invitations?

Your invitations can be as simple or complex as you would like them to be! All invitations should include the event invitation, a response card and envelope (including postage) along with a mailing envelope. Additionally, you can add items like reception cards, directions, itineraries, and accommodation cards to give your guests more information about your wedding.

When should we send our Invitations?

Your invitations should be sent 6-8 weeks before your wedding date to give your guests plenty of time to figure out travel and hotel arrangements to attend your big day! However, if you are having a destination wedding or inviting people who live overseas, you should send the invitations 2-3 months before your date, so they have more time to organize accommodations.

When should the RSVP deadline be?

Everyone should have their responses to you at least 1 month before the wedding. This is important so that you can send final headcounts to your vendors, finalize your seating charts, and confirm how much food you will need from your caterers.

Do I need save the dates? When should I send them?

Save the dates are not always necessary but they are a nice way to get your wedding on people’s calendars. If you are having a destination wedding, travel for many of your guests is necessary, or your wedding date is farther out, save the dates are a good idea so your guests can start to plan or adjust prior commitments. If you decide to send save the dates, they should be sent anytime between 12 and 6 months before your wedding date.

Should I include my registry on my invitation or save the dates?

This is not recommended to include on your formal invitations or save the dates, as it can look like gifts are required or expected. Instead, you can add a link to your wedding website where your registry can be found.
