How to Create an Awesome Wedding Website

Create a wedding website? What does that entail and why do I need one?

Your wedding website is a great resource for your guests and it can also provide them with all the big and small details of your wedding day. Did I mention that this can also make your life a little bit easier? You can direct those guests that are asking TOO MANY questions right to your wedding website. It is one less thing you need to worry about. Here’s some tips to making that wedding website easy, fun, and simple. Start to build that excitement in your guests as they lead up to your wedding day!

Style + Theme

Build your website around your existing color palette and style of your wedding. This will give your guests a peak inside your overall style and give them an inkling what to expect on the day of.

Less is More

When it comes to adding all of your personalization and photos, absolutely include some fun facts of your love story and what brought you to your day! But keep it short and sweet. Your guests know you (hopefully) and your website should have a few highlights of you as a couple with some fun photos to personalize your website. And those photos, pick a few! Don’t overload it!

Who, What, Where, When, + Why

This seems like an obvious one but I’ll mention it anyways! Provide all the detailed information about your wedding including the date, times, location(s), hotel blocks, etc. There’s likely guests who will be traveling from out of town and it’s best to include all of this information in one place for easy reference. Include all the hotel and travel accommodations here too! If you’ve arranged transportation or shuttles from your hotel blocks, you’ll want to include where the shuttles are going to be and when. Also include how often the shuttle service will be running. Again, you’d rather want to direct guests to one place so that you don’t need to be answering the same questions to multiple parties! The closer you get to your wedding, the last thing you’ll want to do is provide everyone with the details all over again.

Timeline + Schedule

This goes hand in hand with the last tip. Provide all information on other events that are revolving around your wedding day. For example, you could include information on your welcome party, day after brunch, etc. Giving your guests the time, location, and even the dress code for each of these additional events will be appreciated!

Travel Guide and Information

Recommending local activities for your out of town guests provides such a personalized touch to the overall vibe around your wedding day! Adding your favorite things to do as a couple will make your guests feel welcome, appreciated, and included on your best day.

RSVP Online

Having your guests RSVP online is an eco-friendly and budget conscious way to receive responses. Although, this is something you want to make sure is feasible as not everyone is tech-savvy. Otherwise, you may be making calls to people that haven’t RSVP’d and that’s no fun either. With that being said, the online RSVP option does provide you with an place to house all your responses for quick and easy access!

Registries

Adding your registry to your wedding invitation is not something you want to do as it is a big no-no from an etiquette standpoint. So your wedding website is the best place to add this! If you aren’t into traditional registries, some couples ask for donations to their favorite charity! Either way, providing direct links, instructions, and any other information is a smart and easy approach for your guests.

Last Minute Changes

Since we are still in the midst of COVID-19 and dealing with constant changes, your wedding website is the best place to have information regarding any last minute changes to your event. As changes occur, you can update your website in real time allowing your guests to continuously check for any new information. Adding the current CDC guidelines to your website is another great way to make your guests feel more comfortable. One more thing! Add a direct link to your site if you are offering a virtual ceremony!

Other Details

A tough conversation that is hard to tackle with family and guests can be daunting. Are children invited? This is definitely something to consider when planning your wedding. If you decide not to have children attend, your wedding website is a neutral place for your guests to see and understand that it will be an “adults-only” event. Other items that you can also include could be dress code, weather permitting, outdoor ceremony, outdoor reception, unplugged event, etc. All the things that are important to you but don’t necessarily fit on your invitation.
