Our Guide to Wedding Signage
Wedding signage can often be forgotten about but this is something we totally love and is essential! Signage has two main purposes: to inform your guests of different aspects of the day, including moments throughout the wedding, directional, information, etc. and it also can really elevate the overall vibe that you are going for. Giving you and your guests an experience they’ll always remember. Both help create a cohesive layout throughout the space for your guests to move through. Seek inspiration from your venue or property and take full advantage of the space you are working with.
We’ve complied an essential list of signage to consider and plan for in your overall budget:
WELCOME SIGNAGE
The welcome sign starts the event off with a heartfelt sentiment. Create your welcome sign to be large enough for your guests to see and admire. This is the first impression of your wedding which you can accentuate with florals, sentimental elements, programs, and any other decor. The welcome sign can be on an easel or freestanding - like the one you see here designed and produced by us! This is the perfect place to introduce your wedding monogram or hashtag to your guests!
CEREMONY SIGNAGE
Aisle signs are placed at the first row of seats for your closest family. This is often overlooked but something we always recommend! Another important and popular ceremony sign is the unplugged signage. This helps set the tone of for your ceremony and is a reminder for guests to be present without any phones or electronic devices.
DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE
Directional signs are so important and essential as they tell your guests where they need to go. These signs should have clear directions to point your guests to the right area. Pointing out the dance floor, bar, and bathroom will come in handy. This helps avoid guests lingering in areas, confusion, and overall keeps the timeline flowing and on schedule.
ESCORT SIGNAGE
The biggest impact and one that guests truly love to see is the seating chart. These escort displays and signs give guests a fun and potentially interactive way to navigate to their tables that will be their home base for the evening. Guests are absolutely used to this and expect it to know which table they are sitting at and who they will be sitting with. They should complement the welcome sign as they end up being the two largest staple pieces.
BAR SIGNAGE
Alongside the food, guests love to see what drinks will be served. Adding signage to the bar not only helps your guests decide on their cocktail of choice, but your bartenders will be happy too! Signature cocktails are always a fun addition and we love adding your pets to this component of the night. We love pets and they should be included in your day!
TABLE NUMBERS
Table numbers are typically small and freestanding markers that serve many purposes. They don’t take up much space and provide important indication for your guests. Table numbers let your guests know which table they are sitting at, and are an essential part of your signage budget.
MISCELLANEOUS SIGNAGE
Other signage that is often overlooked could be items like, your card box, guestbook signage, hashtag signage, memorial moment, etc. Your card box and guestbook table sign should catch your guests eye to your receiving table.
TABLESETTING DETAILS
Menus at each setting can give your guests a preview of what they’ll be expecting for dinner. If you are doing family style for your wedding day, this can be such a nice addition to the table setting and give your guests indication of what you’ll be serving! There’s typically a separate table for your desserts, which will require their own sign. Label your food as clear as possible - your guests might have allergies or food aversions and need to be aware of what they are eating.
What will you do with all your signs after the wedding? One of the most important considerations is the items you’ll want to buy and to rent. Some items can serve as a great keepsake and others really only serve a purpose on that day. A family heirloom mirror that has been repurposed into a welcome sign for your wedding works as the perfect memento. Other signs, such as a large seating chart or directional signs, will end up collecting dust.
